How Many Syringes Are Needed For Chin Fillers?

Request a Quote

A strong jawline, a double chin, or dimples on the skin are just some of the many cosmetic concerns that chin filler treatment can help solve. All you need is a bit of filler on the right areas and an experienced injector, and you'll be able to see a dramatic improvement in your facial appearance without too much effort. You don't even need much: even a few syringes of filler on the right injection sites can give you the improvements that you're looking for.

So how many syringes can you expect for chin filler treatment? Most providers generally report using 1-3 mL cheek filler for each application, though filler injection patients may need more depending on the outcomes that they want to have. In terms of syringes, you're looking at an average of around 2-4 syringes. For the exact number, you should have a better idea after asking your provider during the consultation process.

Why So Little?

A full syringe of filler usually contains around 1 mL of product, which is around 1/4th of a teaspoon. The reason why 1 mL of filler is the usual measurement is filler injection patients typically don't need too much filler around the chin unless they're also looking for jaw filler injections with their treatments. Around 1 mL of filler material in the hands of an experienced injector is more than enough to get you the results that you want.

Dermal filler prices are also ranged around syringe use (though some products like Sculptra charge by the vial), so it's an easy way for your provider to keep track of how much to charge you once your treatments are over. Pricing of dermal fillers works similarly to other facial injectables like Botox, which are usually priced by the number of units used in the treatment.

While you can expect an average amount of syringes to use with your treatments, that's not the be-all-end-all of their pricing. Syringes aren't the only thing you need to keep in mind - there are also a few factors like what type of dermal filler will be used with your chin filler injection.

Different Types of Chin Filler Injections

Dermal fillers are extremely versatile and can be used to get a variety of improvements, but there are a variety of filler types that are more suitable for some applications compared to others. Facial filler injections in particular all have different active ingredients that can help alter their visible effects, reduce common side effects, or otherwise provide different benefits compared to others.

Here are some of the different dermal filler injections that can be used on your chin:

1. Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is the filler material that's most likely to be used in your chin filler injections. Not only is it an extremely versatile product with plenty of applications, but it also offers other benefits to your skin like rehydration. Hyaluronic acid can be found in the body naturally, which means it's biocompatible with your system.

But aside from these benefits, the versatility of hyaluronic acid filler makes it possible for manufacturers to create syringes of filler for specific uses. A great example of this is Juvederm Volux and Juvederm Voluma XC, two chin filler injections that are specifically formulated to give your chin a more contoured appearance.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are also easy to remove if you don't like the results. As a naturally-occurring substance in the body, you'll experience very little of the common side effects usually associated with filler use. But like all injectable treatments, you may experience some initial swelling after your treatments - though swelling resolves a few hours to a few days after your treatment.

2. Calcium Hydroxyapatite Fillers (CaHA)

A long-term filler material used for chin fillers is CaHA fillers, which are made of gel microspheres. These add immediate volume and structure to your chin, which makes it an excellent treatment for concerns like weak chins. CaHA fillers are also made with no animal components, which can be good news for people who have allergies to them.

CaHA fillers have a long-term benefit: after the initial volume added by the gel, more substances in the product also stimulate your collagen production. Collagen is crucial to healthy skin, and it's something that your body tends to produce less of when you get older. With the additional collagen, your results are more likely to stick around.

These types of fillers last for a very long time - an average of around 1 to 3 years, depending on the patient. Since they last for this long, it's advised that you make sure you aren't dealing with an inexperienced injector for your treatment. While it's possible to wait out the effects of misapplied CaHA fillers, it's a much better option to simply get them right the first time.

3. Polylactic Acid Fillers

Polylactic acid fillers are a bit different from other dermal filler injections since they don't actually inject any filler material under your skin. They work like collagen stimulators, which can help stimulate the production of collagen in your skin. More collagen produced means healthier skin.

Polylactic acid fillers can give you some of the most natural-looking results for dermal filler applications since your body will be the one initiating it. However, this also means you need to find an experienced injector to apply the product, to make sure that your results turn out the way that you want them to.

Keep in mind that polylactic acid fillers don’t give you visible results immediately, since they don't have any filler material with your initial injection. On average, you need a few months before seeing improvements, though this is offset by the benefit of polylactic acid filler lasting somewhat long. With consistent and skilled application, you don't have to worry about a shorter time between repeat treatments.
